Vejer - Why
Its location - overlooking the Atlantic coast with views across to North Africa, is unmatched.
The old town is an unspoilt gem: rambling cobbled streets of whitewashed, flower-decked houses, shady corners and neat plazas, with a crop of fascinating monuments and a fine selection of bars and restaurants.
The newer side of town has supermarkets, all manner of shops and amenities - in short everything you need without having to travel more than a few hundred metres.
The broad sandy beaches of the Costa de la Luz are a quick car ride away, offering the chance to surf, kite surf, sail, swim or just lounge with a good book. Cádiz city, Tarifa, Gibraltar and the Costa del Sol are all within easy reach, as is Jerez. There are walking trails, historical monuments and mountain ranges all within striking distance and even Morocco is a short drive and a shorter ferry ride away.
The town has excellent road connections to four international airports; coastal motorways have put most of southern Spain within easy reach and the railway system is accessible from San Fernando or Algeciras (both around half an hour away).
The town's geographical location means new building is strictly limited, which is good news for those seeking an investment property.
Vejer is a popular holiday destination and an excellent bet for short-term lets.
The town's proximity to major economic and population centres means it is also within commuting distance for workers in Cádiz, Jerez and the Gibraltar area, so it will produce good long-term rental yields.
