Jerez de la Frontera
The home of sherry is a beautiful and elegant city, boasting vast, atmospheric bodegas (wine cellars), stunning monumental buildings, smart shopping streets and narrow cobbled lanes. It's also world-famous for horses - the dancing white Carthusians are bred here, the Royal Andalusian Equestrian School has its home in the city and Jerez hosts a magnificent spring festival with horses as the focal point.

Then there's flamenco. Jerez considers itself the cradle of this very Andalusian art form and aficionados come from all over the world to learn or just to experience the spectacle of flamenco at its finest. The city also enjoys a great tradition of bullfighting, but Jerez is far more than just these fundamental tenets of Spanish life: It's a thriving commercial centre, a marvellous base for exploring everything from the white hill towns to the long beaches of the Costa de la Luz and, quite simply, a wonderful place for relaxing, eating good food, drinking outstanding wine and taking in all that this enticing region has to offer.
